It would ensure anyone reading has as much a chance of understanding as possible without the need to ask for clarification. We could certainly ask as players for all quests to have basic wording and uniformity. If it were to mean something else then in English it’d always have accompanying words that tell the reader/listener that it’s figurative not literal It has to come with violence or have a very specific context to mean anything other then military might. You can’t conquer something without implying forcing your will over theirs. Negotiating you couldn’t say you used military force without it being either a lie or tongue in cheek (aggressive negotiations as Star Wars would put it). Well obtaining something doesn’t have to be done in a specific way to still be correct to say it was acquired. There’s reading and then there’s reading between the linesĪcquire means to obtain. The crucial aspect of reading comprehension is working out which words define what’s being said. When you speak do you always use the same word with the same phrasing every time you refer to something? Or do you use synonyms knowing that person you’re speaking to knows the language?
